Step-by-Step Guide on the GST Registration Process

Step 1: Determine Eligibility:

Before initiating the registration process, ensure that your business meets the eligibility criteria for GST registration. Typically, businesses with an aggregate turnover above the prescribed threshold limit need to register for GST.

Step 2: Keep Documents Ready:

Gather the necessary documents and information required for GST registration, including:

Documents Required

- PAN card of the business entity

- Aadhar card and photograph of the authorized signatory

- Proof of business registration (Partnership Deed, Certificate of Incorporation, etc.)

- Address proof of the principal place of business

- Electricity Bill of the Premises

- Bank account details

- Digital signature (if applicable)

Step 3: Access the GST Portal:

Visit the official GST portal (https://www.gst.gov.in/) to begin the registration process.

Step 4: Click on the "Register Now" Button:

On the GST portal's home page, click on the "Register Now" button under the "Taxpayers (Normal)" section.

Step 5: Fill Part A of the Registration Form (GST REG-01):

- Enter the details such as legal name of the business, PAN, email address, and mobile number.

- You will receive an OTP on the registered mobile and email. Enter the OTP to proceed.

Step 6: Fill Part B of the Registration Form (GST REG-01):

- You will receive a Temporary Reference Number (TRN). Use this TRN to log in and fill Part B of the registration form.

- Complete the registration form with details about the business, authorized signatory, and additional places of business.

Step 7: Attach Required Documents:

- Upload the scanned copies of the required documents, including business registration documents and proof of address.

Step 8: Verification:

- Submit the application using DSC (Digital Signature Certificate) or EVC (Electronic Verification Code).

- A success message will be displayed, and an Application Reference Number (ARN) will be sent to your registered email and mobile number.

Step 9: Wait for Approval:

- The GST officer will review your application, and if everything is in order, they will approve your application.

- If any additional information is required, you may receive a notice.

Step 10: Receive GSTIN:

- Once approved, you will receive the Goods and Services Tax Identification Number (GSTIN) and a GST certificate.

Step 11: Register for E-way Bill (if applicable):
